The South African 7s team will participate in this weekend's Rome 7s as a build up for the World Cup in Moscow.

Skipper Kyle Brown will lead an interesting mix of players to the tournament.

Springboks number eight Ryan Kankowski , Ryno Benjamin, and Stefan Basson all return to the team.

Coach Paul Treu is using the Rome tournament as a final trial to select his 12 man side to take to Russia.

Treu said his aim is not to win the tournament but give players like Basson, Kankowski and Benjamin some game time in the abbreviated code as they have been playing fifteens.

South Africa is pooled with host Russia, Scotland and Japan.

Meanwhile, Alifereti Dere is expected to submit his 15 member team to the Fiji Rugby Union this week before he will name his final 12 next week.

The World Cup 7s will be held in Moscow from the 28th to the 30th of this month and Fiji is pooled with world champions Wales, Tonga and Uruguay.
