Vodafone Fiji 7s coach Ben Ryan has revealed why the main national team did not feature in last weekend’s Oceania 7s tournament.

This comes after concerns were raised on why Ryan did not send his top team to the Oceania 7s.

The second string Fiji team beat the full strength All Blacks 7s team 21 - 5 in the final of the Oceania 7s.

Speaking to Fijivillage, Ryan said that he has decided to take a different approach after what happened last year prior to the Gold Coast 7s.

Fiji last won the Gold Coast 7s title in 2012 after beating New Zealand in the final.

The Vodafone Fiji 7s team that will take the field this weekend will include Setefano Cakau, Semi Kunatani, Senivalati Ramuwai, Isake Katonibau, Osea Kolinisau, Emosi Mulevoro, Eminoni Nasilasila, Apisai Domolaialai, Apisalome Waqatabu, Apisai Naqa-liva, Jasa Veremalua and Savenaca Rawaca.

Fiji is pooled with Scotland, Portugal and Australia in the Gold Coast 7s.

Fiji will take on Scotland in their first match at 2.02pm Saturday. We will then face Portugal at 5.23pm before taking on Australia at 9.01pm Saturday.

The quarter finals will be at 12.48pm Sunday, the semi-finals will kick off at 4.53pm while the final will be held at 7.49pm.
