The Social Welfare, Women and Poverty Alleviation Minister said the cycle of poverty can be broken if women in rural areas become financially independent by producing items which guarantees higher income returns and has a niche market.

Dr Jiko Luveni made this comment while donating two sewing machines to the villages of Wainiwaqa, Naqali, Delaitoga, Nabaitovo and Gusi Savu.

Dr Luveni has encouraged women to utilize the resources available.

Meanwhile, the president of Nabaitovo Women’s Club Vasiti Radrotini said the women will now be able to make school uniforms for their children and will save money on traveling expenses and tailor expenses.

She said women had to travel to town for uniforms.

About 50 women from these villages had the opportunity to learn about the income generating projects offered by the ministry.
