"The number of girls present in villages is scarce"

These are the words of Social Welfare Minister Doctor Jiko Luveni at the World Population Day celebrations this morning.

Doctor Luveni speaking to guests said most of these girls have gone to the urban centres in search of education and a better life.

However, school enrollment is not a true reflection of the move.

Doctor Luveni stressed that more needs to be done to address this issue as this shift to urban areas is linked to teenage pregnancies and poverty.
