With the increase in the number of women being diagnosed with breast, cervical and colon cancer, women living in rural areas must not be forgotten in awareness campaigns.

Those were the sentiments of the Nausori Rural Women's Association President Sharda Segran on their decision to hold a workshop next month to educate rural women on the need for detecting the early symptoms of cancer.

Segran said most of the time women in rural areas are overlooked during many awareness campaigns and with the help of a colon cancer survivor, they will be able to give women a chance to hear the experience of what it is like to have cancer and will hopefully encourage them to get regular checkups.
