Police Commissioner, Sitiveni Qiliho says rumour mongers will not hinder the upcoming national celebrations for the sevens gold medal win in Rio.

Qiliho assures everyone that they have nothing to worry about as they have everything monitored.

He says the Fiji Police Force with the assistance of Republic of Fiji Military Forces and the Fiji Corrections Services will be working together to ensure the celebrations for the Fiji 7s team gold medal victory at the Olympic Games in Rio is incident free.

The Police Commissioner says Operation Rio Gold is now underway and the mission will be to ensure a safe and secure environment for all during the celebration and ensure security coverage at all venues is at a maximum.

Qiliho says in light of the recent attempts to create unnecessary fear amongst the general public, he wants to reiterate and assure everyone that all necessary security measures are being implemented.

He is also calling on people to stop spreading the information about an event disrupting the celebrations based on a prophecy that is currently going viral on social media.

Qiliho says with the backing of the RFMF personnel, they will be working together to ensure all necessary security measures are implemented prior to, during and after the celebrations.

Qiliho says he has made it clear to his officers that they will ensure no one disrupts the celebration that has brought about a sense of happiness over the entire nation and no prophecy or person will hinder the celebrations of our victorious 7s team.

The joint operation will not only be focused on the celebration venues but will cover other areas where opportunists will take advantage of the situation however Qiliho has assured everyone that they have all bases covered.
