Chief Magistrate Naomi Matanitobua today ordered a stay for 12 months against former national sevens player Iveri Lavo which must not be breached.

Lavo was charged with assaulting his wife in November, last year.

Lavo's wife told the court she had reconciled with her husband after he returned from the Darwin Sevens and made a promise he will not reoffend.

She said when Lavo was in Australia, his family asked for forgiveness to her father.

Matanitobua told Lavo that his wife is not a punching bag, he must love her and cherish her because she is his life partner.

Lavo was warned that if he breached the stay, he will be arrested and sentenced by the court.
