The Ovalau Rugby Union has asked the Fiji Rugby Union if there is a possibility of setting up a new Colonial Cup franchise to cater for island teams in 2008.
Speaking at the FRU AGM, Board Chairman Keni Dakiudreketi said that funds permitting this would be possible but at the moment they will not be able to cater for Ovalau's plea.
Ovalau officials also stressed that most of their players have been taken in by Tailevu, which therefore resulted in the depleting number of players in their base pool and there was less competition in the island zone.
Dakuidreketi adds the FRU will put in place regulations governing provincial teams from taking players from other teams.
