Fiji and Labasa soccer team striker Roy Krishna has for the first time ever has been nominated for the OFC Player of the Year award.

Krishna has been one of the best strikers for Fiji recently, helping the National side beat New Zealand All Whites after 24 years where he scored two goals, that saw Fiji climb to 106th in the Fifa World Rankings.

He also became the first ever soccer player from Fiji to play in the Fifa Club World Cup playoffs with his current Waitakere United club.

But to win the award, Krishna's chances look slim because the other nine players nominated from New Zealand, New Caledonia, Tahiti, Papua New Guinea and Solomons are professional players who play their soccer overseas.

OFC General Secretary Tai Nicholas said the nominees will be judged based on their performance from the middle of July 2007 to the final day of last year to allow performances of players based in the Oceania region to be taken into consideration.

The Winner will be announced in April 2009.
