Rough seas are hindering the efforts to locate the eight men who are missing at sea.

The Police Search and Rescue Division was activated last night to search for the men.

The eight, who are from Lamiti Village, Gau, were returning to their village from Suva in a white fibre glass boat when the engine developed mechanical problems yesterday afternoon.

A villager who was on the boat called Levuka Police yesterday afternoon and requested for assistance saying that they were in open seas, past Levuka.

A team was dispatched last evening to look for the eight, however they could not locate them.

Police confirmed the mobile is now diverted and they have not made any further contact with the missing men.
