It’s judgment day for the former General Manager and CEO of the Fiji National Provident Fund, Olota Rokovunisei today.

Justice Priyantha Fernando will deliver his verdict at 3pm.

Yesterday, the three assessors in the trial delivered a unanimous guilty verdict in court on the charges of extortion by public servant, alternative count of abuse of office and abuse of office.

It is alleged that in 2006, Rokovunisei accepted $22,773 from the Fund for performance of his duties, a reward which was beyond his proper pay. 

It is also alleged that Rokovunisei received the responsibility allowance without the FNPF board’s approval. 

Rokovunisei is also alleged to have paid out a responsibility allowance of $20,000 per annum to the former Deputy General Manager, Foana Nemani without the board's approval.

The maximum penalty for each of the charges is 3 years imprisonment.
