Joe Rokocoko is back in the Blues starting team to face the Chiefs in Saturday's Super Rugby match in Hamilton.

The 68-test All Blacks winger was initially dumped from the 22 for last weekend's game against the Hurricanes and only got a reprieve to play from the bench when Benson Stanley pulled out injured just before the game.

He came on early into the second half at Eden Park and Coach Pat Lam saw enough to put him back into the top 15.

Lam said it came down to a battle between Rokocoko and Sherwin Stowers to start and he decided to give his more experienced player the nod.

Lam added that Joe was better against the Hurricanes and he still got a way to go but it's fair to say that when he was weighing up Rokocoko and Sherwin, Sherwin probably was not as good as he could have been, so Joe got the opportunity.

The Blues meet the Chiefs at 6:35pm on Saturday night.

The lone game on Friday night at 8:40pm will see the Rebels host the Hurricanes in Melbourne.
