Japan based winger Nasoni Roko has ruled himself out of the 12 member Digicel Fiji 7s team to defend the Melrose Cup in Dubai in the next two weeks.

Speaking to Fijivillage, Roko confirmed he sustained a knee injury during the Marist 7's which will take a month to recover.

The Waimanu lad who was part of the side that won the Melrose Cup in 2005 said he was looking forward to being part of the side, but he believes the current local based and overseas based players can defend the World 7's title.

Coach Iliesa Tanivula will now rely on the services of France based Jone Daunivucu and Neumi Nanuku for the play-maker's role.

William Ryder pulled out of the side because of a slight injury.

The Digicel Fiji 7s Coach Iliesa Tanivula will not chase the services Ryder for the defence of the Melrose Cup.

Tanivula said Ryder was given a second chance by the selectors when he failed to play for the Fiji Warriors team but featured for Waisale Serevi's Lomaiviti side.
