Robbers to be sentenced next week
24 year old Ilaitia Sokia and Marika Yalimaiwai had earlier pleaded guilty to the charge however after disputing certain facts in their charge sheet they pleaded not guilty.
They appeared before Magistrate Alsie Hudson for allegedly stealing cigarettes, oil, confectioneries, tinned food, mobile phone and recharge cards to a total value of more than $5963.
The incident allegedly happened on 2nd August this year and the alarm was raised by the security officer. The duo today told the court that they only stole mobile phones, recharges cards and sim cards and not the other items as stated in their charge sheet.
In his mitigation, Ilaitia told the court that he was employed and looked after his seven brothers and sisters and asked for forgiveness, while Marika told the court the he is still pursuing studies and stays with his parents. He also told the court that he has learnt a lesson while being in remand for two weeks.
The two were further remanded in custody and will be sentenced on 3rd November.
