Robber gets second chance
Those were the words of High Court Judge Justice Salesi Temo as he gave a 25 year old man a second chance after he had pleaded guilty to robbery with violence and gave him a 24 month suspended sentence.
Peni Ratumaimuri with his friends assaulted and robbed a taxi driver in Lami of a watch and $14 dollars.
Judge Temo while handing down the sentence noted that Ratumaimuri was not the initiator of the attack and had joined as he was drunk at the time.
The Judge stressed that the offence was a total disregard of the victim’s right to earn a living peacefully, his personal safety and his property.
However Justice Temo took into account that Ratumaimuri was a first offender and a single father of a six year old, he pleaded guilty at the first chance and the stolen items were recovered.
While taking into account that Ratumaimuri spent two months in remand, Justice Temo warned Ratumaimuri that hopefully he has learnt his lesson.
He sentenced Ratumaimuri to 2 years imprisonment but stated that he would give him another chance and suspended the sentence for 24 months.
