It is a tragic day for a road worker and his family today as he died in a road accident in Ba.

The 47-year-old Ba Town Council worker was allegedly hit by a bus in front of the Moto and Kings Road junction near Yalalevu.

Director of Traffic, SSP Mahesh Mishra said the council worker was sweeping the road when the tragic accident occurred.

SSP Mishra confirmed that the 32-year-old bus driver is in custody for questioning.

An eye witness who wished to remain anonymous told Fijivillage that he was in his house when he heard a loud bang.

He rushed outside thinking that the bus tyre had burst however he later found out that there was a fatal accident involving a council worker who was working along Yalalevu.

The driver is in custody while the post mortem will be conducted tomorrow.

20 pedestrians have lost their lives on our roads so far this year.

These include children, people with mental health issues, drunkards, inconsiderate pedestrians and people hit by speeding vehicles.

SSP Mishra said they are now beefing up their operations all over Fiji.
