The upgrade work of the existing two lane road from the Wainibokasi roundabout to Nausori Airport is expected to finish in January next year.
Nadi and Suva Road Upgrading Projects Programme Manager, Zaina Khan says the contractor China Railway 5th is struggling with the weather and some of the surfacing work. There are also issues with the previous design as it did not have enough bus shelters and the required footpath space.
Khan says they are working with them to cut down the working area and reduce the traffic delay that is affecting the people going to Nausori, to the airport and those going to work in the morning from all those areas coming in from Wainibokasi road.
She adds they have redesigned the areas around the Ratu Cakobau Park grandstand.
Khan adds a lot of work is to be done at the road from Makoi to Omkar which includes building bus shelters, pavements, footpaths, bus bays, street lights and painting of the roads.
She adds there are some issues for the road works between Caqiri and Pilling Road which includes land acquisition and FEA line relocation.
Khan highlights that utility relocation and weather is the major issue for the progress.
