The adverse weather conditions brought about by heavy rainfall, that led to landslides on the Sawani/Serea Highway near the road to Savu village, has forced the Works Ministry to re-divert the road leading to the Naqali Bridge.
Works Ministry Spokesperson, Sainiana Waqainabete said that plans were already in place when the bridge was built, however, the recent extent of the landslide and the damage done, has forced them to carry out this plan immediately.
Waqainabete adds that the re-diversion of the road will also help solve the problem for commuters who use the highway, as every time there is a landslide, people are unable to travel to and from Suva.
A cabinet paper will be prepared and submitted to Government very shortly.
