The Fiji Police Traffic Department has raised concern regarding the increasing number of pedestrians dying on our roads.

8 pedestrians have died on our roads this year while the number was zero for the same period last year.

Director Traffic SSP Mahesh Mishra said this is an alarming number and both the pedestrians and the motorists should be blamed for this.

Mishra said their officers have come across a number of cases where pedestrians are wearing black clothes and walking on the roads during night time.

He said this sort of attitude is not acceptable as black clothes are not visible during night time.

The Director Traffic is urging the motorists and the pedestrians to start being more responsible on our roads as visibility becomes poor during the wet season which we are facing now.

Meanwhile, the road death toll stands at 19 for this year compared to 11 for the same period last year.
