Road Death Tolls Increase
A 25-year-old woman died on our roads yesterday evening when the car she was travelling in veered into the opposite lane and hit an oncoming vehicle in Navutu, Sigatoka.
The deceased was sitting in the front passenger seat of the car when the driver failed to negotiate a bend and hit an oncoming vehicle. The woman died instantly while the driver was rushed to Sigatoka hospital where he has been admitted in a serious condition.
And a class two student of Ba, Shivneel Chand, died in Lautoka hospital yesterday after being in coma for three days. He was admitted in critical condition at the Lautoka hospital after he was hit by a car when he suddenly crossed the road in Tuvu on Wednesday afternoon.
Meanwhile, a 60-year-old man was admitted at Lautoka hospital in a serious condition after he was hit by an unknown vehicle yesterday evening.
According to Police, the man was crossing the road in Saweni, Lautoka, when an oncoming vehicle hit him. Police are now trying to locate the vehicle driver.
Police are now calling on road users to be more vigilant on roads due a number of accidents. Assistant Police Spokesperson, Corporal Josaia Weicavu, said people were becoming careless on roads which had increased the number of accidents and deaths on our roads.
The road death toll now stands at 19 compared to 14 for the same period last year.
