Concerns have been raised that pollution of the Labasa River has seriously affected its marine life.
National Farmers Union, Labasa Branch Secretary Surendra Lal said many fish, crabs and prawns end up dying and said fisherman and farmers are concerned about their livelihood.
He had called on authorities to act quickly before the matter gets out of hand.
Meanwhile, interim Fisheries Minister Joketani Cokanasiga said he will look into the matter today.
