Risk assessment to be carried out at airport
AFL Chairman, Rick Rickman said all the identified risks have to be eliminated or mitigated.
Air Pacific, CEO John Campbell said services will only resume once the airport rectification has been undertaken and AFL approaches CAAFI for Nausori Airport to again be licenced for scheduled jet services.
Campbell said Air Pacific terminated flights to and from Nausori in June 2007 as a consequence of the overall downturn in travel but more particularly because the airport infrastructure had declined to the point that operations could not be guaranteed the level of safety required by Air Pacific.
Meanwhile, AFL Chairman said from AFL's point of view, they also need to ensure that the facilitation of passengers is well coordinated and smooth.
He said Aircraft landing/takeoff is only one aspect of the total operation within the passenger movement processing, others include border control customs and immigration, bio security, security and passenger/people comfort and facilitation.
He added this also apply to any other airline that may want to operate a B737 type aircraft into Nausori airport.
According to Rickman it should be noted that Nausori has not had in the past, and will not have in the foreseeable future sufficient international traffic to make it a commercially viable International Airport.
