The Ministry of Primary Industries is looking into ways to see that salt water does not affect fertile land due to rising sea level.

The Director for Land and Water Resource Management Division, Lakshman Mudaliar said that the rising sea level due to climate change is another worrying factor as flat land close to coastal areas will have salt water damaging it.

However he said they are looking at ways to combat the problem.

Meanwhile, Mudaliar said that they have found during a survey that most of the land in Fiji are within the flood zone areas or coastal areas which are always affected.

He said that all these lands have drainage problems also and they are planning to construct main and primary drains to encourage cultivation and utilization of these flat lands.
