Police have raised concern over the increase in number of sexual offence cases during the first quarter of this year.
Figures show that in the last three months, sexual offence cases went up by 56 percent compared to same period last year.
Assistant Spokesperson, Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri said the increase is alarming and they are trying their best to decrease the numbers.
He said young girls are no longer safe in the vicinity of their homes or neighborhood like before and in most cases the perpetrators are known to the victims.
He said the Commissioner of Police is initiating a strategic plan to counter the rapid increase in such cases.
