Ongoing research in the North could see an increase in Pineapple production as interest grows from farmers.
Acting Director for the Research Division Miliakere Nawaikula said the research is aimed at increasing pineapple production in the North and the rapid multiplication of 500,000 pineapple plantlets will be carried out this year at the research station.
Nawaikula said this is expected to provide a base for promoting export and assist in the promotion of year round production of pineapple through phase planting.
She adds five different pineapple production practices have been investigated to devise the best recommendation to aid production that is economical to farmers.
