The decision taken by the interim government to increase duty on various items is expected to rake in an additional $26 million in revenue next year.
Fiji Islands Revenue and Customs Authority CEO Jitoko Tikolevu told Village News that the increase would off-set the decrease in duty announced on various food items.
It was announced in the 2008 Budget that all items that have been levied fiscal duty of 3 percent has increase to 5 percent and these includes lab equipment, generators, industrial machines, chemicals, machines for agriculture, mobile phones, laptops and imported fruits.
Meanwhile, FIRCA has also confirmed that through the extension of the Tax Amnesty period, they now target to rake in around $40 million through the exercise.
