There are revelations interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama had written to the Pacific Islands Forum saying Fiji wants to re-engage with the Forum.

Radio Australia reports that Pacific Islands Forum Chair, Niue Premier Toke Talagi said he welcomes Commodore Frank Bainimarama's request as that's exactly what the Pacific Island Forum Leaders want to hear.

He added the re-establishment of contact will ensure they continue to dialogue to ensure Fiji holds general elections as quickly as possible.

Fiji declined to attend this year's forum meeting in Niue after New Zealand placed a transit visa restriction on the interim government's delegation.
