Papua New Guinea said Fiji should return to democratic rule soon by holding free and fair elections as soon as possible.
Speaking to Radio Australia, PNG's Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Abal said people's rights should be respected and the country should return to democratic rule.
Abal said the issue will also be discussed at the Pacific Islands Leaders Forum in Niue which starts on the 18th of this month.
