As the 2010 school year came to end last week, teachers who turned 55 this year have now finished off due to the government’s Compulsory Retirement Policy at 55.
Earlier this year, the policy was changed to allow teachers who turn 55 in the school year to stay on until the end of the year to ensure that the student’s education is not affected.
Permanent Secretary at the Public Service Commission, Parmesh Chand said the civil service is also running smoothly with proper succession plans now being implemented.
Chand said they are also ensuring that civil service delivery is not affected through the retirement policy and the re-engagement policy is also in place.
Meanwhile PSC is expecting a report by February on the right size of the civil service.
At the moment more than 27,000 people are working in the civil service.
