Retired Senior Education Officials have been re-engaged by the Ministry of Education on a short term contract.

The Ministry confirms that the Senior Education officers have been contracted until December and their re-engagement is to assist the ministry de-centralize its role.

It said that the Divisions and District Education Offices will now have increased responsibilities and functions as part of its improvement reforms.

The Ministry believes that this is the right time to decentralize responsibilities so that educational services are much more accessible to the people and schools, leaving the Head Office to focus on policy and decision making.

Meanwhile, the Ministry confirms that retired school principals and Head teachers have all been replaced while in schools where subject and assistant teachers have retired, their classes and subjects have been rationalized.

The Ministry stresses that Term two of schools will begin as scheduled.
