Land Transport Authority's Chief Executive Officer has today stressed that Fiji Taxi Union General Secretary, Rishi Ram should re-think of the actions he is proposing to take.
Speaking to Village News, Etuate Koroi said Rishi Ram does not have any powers to change taxi fares and any such move will be against the Government of the day which has proposed the new fares.
Earlier this morning, Ram confirmed that they will be liaising with taxi meter agents to set the taxi meters at $1.33 flag fall rate instead of $1.50 and to have a running charge of 13 cents for every 200 meters.
Ram added he will ask LTA to refund all the taxi proprietors who have paid their money as LTA is the one responsible for the mess.
He said he now understands that the 50 cents increase in the flag fall rate is not a 33 percent increase in taxi fare as granted by the Interim Minister last week.
