The Consumer Council of Fiji said it has caught many retail outlets breaching food regulations by selling expired and improperly labeled food products.

In its newsletter for this month, the Council reported that it found many expired products attached to other food products as promotional items during its monthly surveillance.

The Council said many items found to have expired months ago and also having dents or rust in them included canned baked beans, peeled tomatoes, tinned tomato puree, coconut milk, tinned fish and fruits.

The matter has been forwarded to the Central Board of Health and the Department of Fair Trading and Consumer Affairs.
