Work is underway to see that restaurants in Suva have a food grading system as more people are coming up with complaints about Restaurant Hygiene issues.

The Consumer Council Spokesman, Shalvin Prasad said that they have to date received 17 complaints about restaurants in Suva, Nausori and the West since their campaign started in August.

Prasad said out of the 17, 12 complaints are about restaurants in Suva and the nature of the complaints range from being served stale food, insects and bugs in food, served with half-cooked meat, food alleged to have been cooked in left over oil, overcharged on stated food prices and restaurants operating without proper license.

Prasad said the Council is now working closely with the Suva City Council and other councils to introduce a food grading system.

The Restaurant Hygiene Campaign ends on the 30th of this month.
