Training of restaurant owners under the Restaurant Hygiene Campaign is currently on hold as the Suva City Council has had to focus on other projects.

Under the Restaurant Hygiene Campaign, the council trained restaurant owners on proper hygiene practices as well as other health related issues when it comes to handling food after numerous complaints were received from members of the public.

Spokesperson Jillian Hicks said despite having to put the campaign on hold, they are urging members of the public to lodge a complaint if they come across restaurants that are found to be dirty or unhygienic and they will take necessary action.

Hicks said restaurant owners will be given a warning and if they fail to adhere to the rules and standards set by the council, then they could face court action.

So far 65-70 percent of restaurant owners in Suva have undergone the training and the rest will continue at the end of the year.
