Respect the decision says Yabaki
Those were the words of the Citizens Constitutional Forum's Executive Director Reverend Akuila Yabaki who said the decisions reached by CMAG can help move the nation forward.
National Federation Party (NFP) General Secretary said it is up to interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama and the interim government to at least restore a degree of respectability to their tarnished image by accepting the decision made by Commonwealth Ministerial Contact Group and the forum.
Pramod Rae said Bainimarama's comment is proof that the interim regime wants to remain in power as long as possible.
Meanwhile, acting British high Commissioner Shaun Cleary said Fiji should focus its attention towards returning to democracy.
The Fiji Labour Party (FLP) leader Mahendra Chaudhry said a Presidential Political Forum should be convened as soon as possible to find a solution to the problems the country is facing.
The Commonwealth had given Fiji a 6 month deadline for the interim government to follow the Pacific Islands Forum deadline to have elections by December 2009 or face full suspension from the Commonwealth in September.
Speaking to Radio Tarana in New Zealand, Bainimarama said the Commonwealth could go ahead and kick Fiji out now if it intends to do so in December adding whether or not Fiji is suspended from the Group, nothing would change as no elections would be held this year at all.
