Former Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase after visiting the flood affected areas in Nadi and Sigatoka yesterday said the devastation caused by recent floods is far more serious than what most people can imagine.

Qarase said that agricultural crops in flooded areas have been destroyed, infrastructure such as roads, water and sources of income for thousands of people have been destroyed.

Qarase also said that resources provided by Government in terms of personnel, transport, equipment and food rations have been grossly inadequate and not available on time. He adds as a result the public has been left confused as to what is happening and what direction Government will take in its relief and rehabilitation work.

Qarase also paid tribute to many public servants, individuals and agencies who have worked tirelessly during the last week to assist those in need.

However Military Spokesperson Major Neumi Leweni said the Government already has teams out in the field looking into the needs of the flood victims.
