Co-chair of the National Council for Building a Better Fiji and Head of the Catholic Church in Fiji, Archbishop Petero Mataca has called on the international community to provide resources to support the People's Charter process and in addition to support in the preparations of the elections in March next year.
He was referring in particular to Australia and New Zealand and said they are lukewarm about the Charter initiative and have been single mindedly pressing for immediate elections.
Archbishop Mataca has denied that the Charter could be used by interim government to delay the elections.
He said there are some signs to indicate that there is a greater willingness to go beyond the boundaries of race, social status and religion in Fiji to reach out to those in need and indicate a growing resolve to build a better Fiji for the future. He added that there is a strong of hope and belief that change is good.
