Resort closed down by FDB
FDB Acting CEO Nafitalai Cakacaka confirmed to Fijivillage news that they have closed down the resort as a procedural matter and they are now in talks with the Hotel operators on finding a solution.
Lagoon Resort General Manager Jim Sherlock told Fijivillage news that he had to send the twenty seven staff members home after the FDB closed down the resort.
According to Sherlock he has been waiting approval for a loan from the FDB for the past thirty months and the bank had agreed to allow him to operate the resort on a time share basis which he had started work on.
Sherlock claims that the resort was 37 percent up on business compared to last year and he has been paying the original FDB loan through the time share operations.
Sherlock also claimed that tourists from England were booked in to come down this week but they have had to cancel all forward bookings for now.
He confirmed that they have engaged a lawyer to secure an injunction through the High Court to allow the hotel to operate until the matter is resolved between the two parties.
The case will be called in the Suva High Court this afternoon.
