The 2010 Crest Agriculture show has received support from the Reserve Bank of Fiji sponsoring the Farmer of the year and Young farmer of the year award.
The Awards were handed over to the Agricultural Ministry's Permanent Secretary Colonel Mason Smith by Governor Sada Reddy.
Reddy said the government has been pushing for growth in the agricultural sector as it has the potential to provide additional employment and balance of payment.
Permanent Secretary of Agriculture Colonel Mason Smith said they are planning on reducing imports substantially.
The awards for the overall winners in each of the two sponsored categories will comprise a cash component and trophy handcrafted by a local entrepreneur.
The 2010 Crest Agricultural show will be held from the 21st-24th this month at the Vodafone Arena in Suva, and will showcase fish and forestry products, crops and livestock cultivated or bred in Fiji.
