A research is expected to be carried out soon to combat the outbreak of communicable disease such as dengue, leptospirosis and typhoid.
Speaking to Fijivillage News, Ministry of Health Spokesperson, Iliesa Tora said a research team has been put together by Health Ministry and Fiji School of Medicine to come up with ways to eliminate this problem and to assist the community.
He adds that re-emergence of the disease in the country is a concern for the Health Ministry, and this research will assist them to deal with the disease.
He adds that statistics reveal that there were 297 cases of typhoid in 2007, 426 cases in 2008 and 212 have been recorded so far for this year. For dengue fever cases it was 53 in 2007, 1,880 in 2008 and 356 for this year, and so far for leptospirisis, there were 92 cases in 2007, 83 last year and 91 has been recorded for this year.
