Pathologist reports have revealed in the High Court today that Ashika Lata McCartney died due to strangulation however the exact time of death cannot be precisely ascertained.

CWM Pathologist, Dr. Eka Buadromo gave evidence today on behalf of Dr. Prashant, who had conducted the post mortem on Ashika on November 3rd, 2007 and highlighted that there was bruising found on the victims neck area.

She also revealed that the cause of death was due to asphyxiation after her cricoids cartilage, a bone in the neck was fractured. She says this is a very difficult bone to fracture and would require tremendous blunt force for this to occur.

Dr. Buadromo also highlighted that the estimated time of death is five to ten days before November 2nd, however as there is no study carried out in Fiji on the rate of decomposition, it is difficult to pin point the exact time of death.

The case continues this afternoon.
