Repair works begin on homes affected by termite infestation
A total of 1019 homes have been confirmed to be infested with the termite, this from a total of 11,748 homes which have been surveyed in Lautoka alone.
According to Logistics Manager Major Bale Tuitubou, most of the infested homes were poorly built and not constructed according to building standards.
Major Tuitubou adds the onus is now on all home owners and those wishing to build their homes to ensure that the timber they use is treated and treated to the required standard.
Operation Kadivuka teams have already started work on the heavily infested home in Tomuka by tearing down its walls and floors.
Major Tuitubou said work on the Tomuka home which is the worst affected may take up to three weeks.
The repair works will be carried out by carpenters of the Public Works Department.
He added that Government is committed to ensuring that all those affected by the termite infestation are properly rehabilitated.
