A 36 year old remand prisoner escaped from the Suva Corrections Center this afternoon.

Deswar Dutt of Waituri, Nausori was in remand for his alleged role as the driver of the getaway vehicle used in the September Samabula BSP Bank Robbery.

Dutt jumped over the Correctional fence before getting into a waiting vehicle around 2.30pm today.
 
Road blocks have been erected at Laqere, Delainavesi and Dokanaisuva with a team from the Police Special Response Unit deployed around the Southern, Central and Eastern divisions.

Police have stressed that the roadblocks will be erected until the escapee is recaptured and people are being asked to be patient as police operation is carried out.

People are also being reminded that it is an offence to harbor escapees and are being advised to call their nearest community post or police station.
