Relocation arrangements made for 140
Speaking from Nausori airport, where another load of relief supplies has just come in from New Zealand and Australia, DISMAC Official Anthony Blake confirmed those occupying Holy Cross Primary and Wainikeli Primary schools have moved to other shelters.
Blake confirmed that emergency aid continues to be shipped out to the affected areas.
He said their focus remains on the education sector and those who have lost their homes.
DISMAC also confirmed that so far they have confirmation of 320 homes being badly damaged in the Eastern division mostly in the Lau group.
And as on the ground assessments continues, DISMAC also confirmed that 67 schools in the Lau and Lomaiviti group have sustained damages to classrooms and other facilities.
DISMAC said all crops on Vanuabalavu, Kanacea, Mago and Cicia have been destroyed namely casava, vudi, dalo, banana, bele, uvi and wi and people on these islands desperately need food and water supplies over the next few weeks.
Meanwhile, Commissioner Northern Colonel Inia Seruiratu also confirmed that RFMF Estimators and Engineers are working out the logistics of carrying out immediate repair works to the damaged schools in the Eastern division.
