Emergency relief agencies are now working around the clock to provide for more than 11,000 who are now in about 50 evacuation centres in the Western and Central division after the weekend flooding.
The flooding has already been described as the worst ever and the devastation from the flood is also massive.
Majority of the evacuees are from the Western division.
While DISMAC now has a distribution and assessment team to ensure that emergency rations are given out while the assessments continue, DISMAC Director, Pajiliai Dobui said they are currently facing some issues at the evacuation centres.
Dobui said some evacuation centres do not have power and water supply, and sanitation is also a concern.
Dobui said they are distributing food rations already however due to the number of infants at the evacuation centres they need to include milk in the ration packs.
Dobui said they have now rostered civil servants from the different ministries to assist in the urgent relief work.
He also calls on people and organisations intending to assist or give donations to contact DISMAC on its needs.
Dobui said DISMAC would be grateful for any assistance.
