Relief Supplies on its way
The Fiji Red Cross Emergency Response Team is on its way to Cikobia with 229 cartons of water which was loaded from Red Cross's container in Savusavu on the "MV Iloilovatu" which left Suva yesterday.
After doing an initial assessment of Cikobia yesterday, the Red Cross team distributed 15 tarpaulins, 10 cooking sets, 40 black packs and water collection containers to 119 villagers.
Today 10 tents, more kitchen sets, lanterns, kerosene stoves, kerosene, water collection containers, tarpaulins and blankets will be distributed.
The emergency Team will also carry out another assessment and set up temporary shelters on the Island.
Meanwhile, more bottled water is also expected to be taken to Cikobia Island later this week.
The 119 residents on Cikobia Island are faced with a grim situation as lack of clean drinking water and poor sanitation continues to increase the risk of water borne diseases.
