The Water Supply Department said the rehabilitation work to improve the supply of water along the Suva Nausori corridor is likely to end in 2011.
Principal Information Officer Iliesa Sokia said the augmentation work which started in 2005, also involves the replacement of old pipes which have been in place for over 30 years.
Sokia said part of the rehabilitation work will also focus on improving the infrastructure at their treatment plants.
Funding for the rehabilitation work will be sourced from the $150million ADB loan.
Meanwhile, the Ba water supply is awaiting approval from landowners in Ba before they lay new water pipes, after some were damaged in the January floods.
A landslide damaged these pipes so the department will have to lay new pipes in the Nasolo area however they need the consent from the Matagali before they can start their work.
Officials from the department said this is the reason why residents of Talaiya, Binai and Koronubu are facing water cuts and are being supplied water through water trucks.
A resident of Koronubu, Kashmindar Singh raised concern that the Ba water supply department was not giving valid reasons for the water cuts adding they have to hire tractors to fetch water from nearby rivers and creeks for drinking, washing and bathing.
