A new software system that has been installed at the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages will cut down waiting time for people and improve efficiency and service delivery.

Acting Registrar-General Lolohea Baro said prior to the installation of the new software, staff of the Registry had to manually issue receipts to clients, which was a tedious exercise.

Baro said the new system will ease the load, quicken the flow of the queue of clients and speed up the process at the counter.

The >Business Cobol= system, is a computerised cash register that not only prints receipts, but at the end of the business day prints a summary of all receipts, prints an audit control page for each cashier which they will have reconciled and it also prints a report on the total value and number of certificates issued in a day.

The new system will considerably cut down the waiting period of clients; shorten the long queues of members of the public; and cut down the work of the staff.

The system is already operational in the Stamp Duties Office and will soon be installed in other Registries.
