The regime has changed focus from the original explanation of "clean up campaign" to formulating a People's Charter with a view to building a better Fiji.

Those were the words of Fiji Island Council of Trade Unions (FICTU) General Secretary Attar Singh while addressing the FICTU Delegates Conference yesterday which had the theme " Democracy First".

Singh said the interim government has now resolved to dismantle the electoral provisions in the 1997 Constitution, introduce common roll, proportional voting and re-configure electoral boundaries while the majority of the NGOs, Women's Activists, the deposed SDL government, the NFP, the Methodist Church and the Muslim and South Indian religious and cultural organizations have opposed the draft Charter process and have decided not to join the NCBBF.

Singh also said FICTU members must play a leading role in ensuring we restore DEMOCRACY FIRST, before anything else adding that wages, salaries, employment conditions and benefits of workers are under serious threat.
