Refrain from internet banking from internet cafes-Police
Assistant Spokesperson, Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri said it is common to see that personal information such as full names, occupation, Date of birth, address and photos of individuals who have become members of social Networking Websites such as Facebook, Tagged, Bebo, My Space, Flixster being uploaded on these sites.
Inspector Sokomuri said individuals add the particulars of friends and family members on these websites and looking at some information provided, they are too personal and contain a lot of details.
He said these details can be used by online criminals to create hatred amongst family members and friends.
Most importantly this information can be used by online criminals to extract further information about these individuals such as bank account details whereby money could be transferred out without the knowledge of the account holder.
According to Inspector Sokomuri they have recorded a few cases where this facility has been compromised and funds have been electronically transferred without the knowledge and authority of the account holder.
He has warned people never to access internet banking accounts at any internet cafe.
Police is advising the public to report any suspicious site or criminal activity on the internet.
